Coming Back

The past year has been a very defining one for me.

To be honest, I have struggled to find both the time and the headspace for reflective writing. It is not that I have not been reflecting; I have done quite a lot of that. The challenge has been finding the capacity to sit down, follow those thoughts properly, and turn them into something I can share.

Life became busy, priorities shifted, and I had to be deliberate about what was most important and what was most urgent. Somewhere in that process, this blog moved towards the bottom of my priority list. Still, I have missed this space.

Most of my writing recently has taken the form of professional storytelling on LinkedIn. I enjoy that, but this blog gives me something different. It allows me to bring together different parts of myself, think more freely, and explore ideas without having to fit them neatly into a professional frame.

I thought about coming back several times, but the time was simply not there. The ideas, however, never really disappeared. I have drafts, notes, and half-formed thoughts waiting for me, some of them much older than I would like to admit.

One of the pieces I am most interested in returning to is called Losing My Shame. I have a funny relationship with shame, and lately I have been thinking about what it means to feel less controlled by it. There is also another strand of that conversation connected to my academic work, particularly around shame, vulnerability, care, and the workplace. I will leave that there for now, because those ideas deserve their own space.

Another piece I have drafted is about family: how messy it can be, how beautiful it can be, and how both things can be true at the same time. That one was inspired by my last holiday in Nigeria in June 2025, which should tell you just how long some of these drafts have been sitting with me.

This is also a season of milestones.

I recently completed the taught phase of my research. It may sound like a simple update, but to me, it is massive. I know how many mountains I had to climb to get there, so I am allowing myself to celebrate it properly. Cheers to me for that.

Another milestone is that I got a part-time lecturing role. Hello! You can now add “lecturer” to the title.

It has brought me a huge sense of fulfilment. Being able to impart knowledge is meaningful in itself, but what feels even more significant is the opportunity to help people grow, become better versions of themselves, and move closer to achieving their life goals.

That feels massive to me, and it is something I am genuinely excited to do more of.

I also want to build more meaningful relationships this year and be more intentional about how I show up for the people in my life. I am still thinking through what that looks like in practice, but it is something I want to approach with more honesty and care.

For the rest of the year, I also want to pay more attention to my body. I want to return to the gym, get back into weightlifting, cut down on sugar, and be more intentional about how I eat.

More importantly, I want to rethink what structure means for me moving forward. What do I want to scale? What genuinely makes me happy? What do I need to cut back on? Where do I want to invest more of myself? I want to be more intentional about where my time goes, what I am building towards, and the relationships I want to nurture.

I do not want structure to mean forcing myself into a rigid routine. I want it to mean creating enough room for the people and things I love and hold dear.

Reflective writing is one of those things.

So yes, expect more reflections here. Maybe not many at once, perhaps once a month, maybe twice. But when I do publish, I want each piece to be thoughtful, reflective, and worth your time. I want it to leave you with something to consider, question, or take away.

For now, this is me returning to the blog, slowly but intentionally. I hope I find the grace to remain consistent while continuing to navigate the complexities of life.

Thank you for still being here. ❤️
